RULING PARTY IN NIGERIA CONTINUE TO SWELL IN NUMBERS AS PDP MEMBERS DEFECT

As we approach the electioneering era, this involves political allignment and realignment. From record,  despite severe and heavy criticism , the All Progressive Congress, APC whuch is the ruling party has continued to swell massively in numbers.  This has witnessed defection of strong  members of opposition political parties including Peoples Democratic Party, PDP with their structures.

Recently, Former governor Mahmuda Shinkafi of Zamfara state left the PDP for the APC. Shinkafi led his supporters to the ruling party and was received by the Deputy Governor of the State. He promised to play roles in the advancement of the APC in both Zamfara and Nigeria

Accordingl to Media  report, Mahmuda Shinkafi, the former governor of Zamfara state, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Shinkafi has now picked the APC membership card at the party’s secretariat in Gusau, the capital of the state.

The report said Shinkafi was accompanied to the venue by party supporters and was received by state’s deputy governor, Ibrahim Wakkala, on behalf of Governor Abdul’Aziz Yari.

After picking his membership card, Shinkafi promised to work for the development of the party not only at the state level but the country as a whole.

“My coming to APC is home coming for me, because I left it before and now I am back home to my brothers and sisters.

“Together we are going to work for the party to become stronger and the party to beat in the state,” he said.

On his part, Wakkala said: “It is not a matter of coming back but it is a return to the fold of Yarimawa. Together we are going to build the APC to become more vibrant and a viable political party in the state and country.”

Shinkafi was a deputy governor during the administration of Ahmad Sani for eight years under the platform of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP).

He became the governor of the state in 2007 under the ANPP before defecting to the People Democratic Party (PDP) in 2008, after being elected as the governor in 2007.

He sought re-election in 2011 and 2015 and lost to incumbent Governor Abdul’Aziz Yari of the APC.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that ahead of the 2019 general elections in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently suffered a major setback as Babatunde Gbadamosi, one of its strong members in Lagos, has dumped the political organisation.

Gbadamosi, who contested for the ticket of the PDP in the 2015 gubernatorial election in Lagos, joined the Action Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, October 11.
