The incident occurred at 33, Ntia Street, off Ekpri Nsukara.
An eyewitness, Ekemini Obot, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the fire started about 2am. According to Obot, his wife noticed the fire and raised an alarm, which attracted neighbours to the scene.
He, however, said the victims died before they could be rescued.
He said: “I am Ekemini James Obot, the grandson to the landlady whose house has been burnt.

“My wife, who went out to urinate, saw the fire and raised an alarm and we came outside to meet the house burning.”
Obot said fire service men and police came to the scene, but they came rather too late to rescue the situation.
The Director of Fire Service in the state, Ndarake Ukpe, confirmed the incident.
Ukpe said: “My commander has just informed me, but he has not given me details.

Ukpe regretted that residents of the area could not reach the service on time because they did not have the fire service phone numbers.
